Retro Sewing Sunday – Dress Pattern

I’ve spent to day stewarding at the Open House, and one of the lovely things about it is that you get to stand there chatting about fabric and sewing – things I love.

Jenni came in, who has some cards featured in the studio during the open houses.  Her cards are lovely – origami motifs made from vintage books and dress making patterns (I will share some on here this month and more about her can be found here).  She had a lovely dress pattern to give to Wendy, from MIY so before it went in her bag I asked if I could photograph it to share it here.

I feel dressmaking patterns feel much more interesting when they feature illustrations, especially when compared to ones which have photographs.  Often the styling for the photo ends up making them look a bit, err frumpy.  This example below is great – eye catching colours, lovely hair styles, and a design that feels like it will never go out of fashion.  I particularly like the option with the puff sleeve.  No year on it unfortunately, but you could have bought it for 3/4d!

Love the artwork on the pattern envelope, and the 60’s style shift frocky thing is fab for summer – I want one!
