June 2011 Newsletter

Wow, the summer is flying by.  We are nearly at the longest day of the year, the 21st June, my favourite peonies are in season and the shops are full of asparagus.  I like the summer for quilt making as it inspires lightweight quilts made with pretty fresh prints.  Our 100% cotton wadding is perfect for sleeping under on hot nights, although we don’t seem to have had many of these recently!
Thank you to everyone who came to our party – we had such a lovely day.  Some new fabrics have come into the shop.  Our black and whites have been popular at £8 per metre and we have some pretty spotty and stripy fat quarters which are £2 each.
Out and About
A couple of our customers are members of the Flickr Brit Quilt group – have a look to be inspired on what is happening on our little island.  http://www.flickr.com/groups/britquilt/  On that subject The Quilter’s Guild needs your vote in the National Lottery awards – full details are on the newsletter.  Brighton Museum has some good exhibitions on at the moment, their main exhibition is related to Charleston and is about the work of Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell, and for June they also have another interesting fashiony exhibition called Couture Brighton.  For more details go to http://www.brighton-hove-rpml.org.uk/Museums/Pages/home.aspx  Another snippet to share is the new Mollie Makes magazine, which can be found in Sainsburys.  It has lovely photography and is very inspiring.
We are closed this Saturday as we are at the Heffle Quilters Show, Punnets Green Village Hall, near Heathfield,  TN21 9DS.  There are rumours circulating that the shop is actually closed as we are taking part in Brighton’s naked bike ride, but I can confirm that we most definitely are not!  If you are taking part, remember mini quilts can be effective cover ups 😉
The following Friday and Saturday (17th and 18th) we are also closed as we are at the Sandown Quilt Show. This is a biggie, and on all weekend – I know there are some coaches coming up from Brighton so we hope to see you there.
I have attached our newsletter which has details, but coming up we have 1 space left on our Trip Round the World Quilt course which starts next Tuesday.  We also have our String Quilt workshop, bindings day and introduction to patchwork courses coming up.  There has been a lot of interest in the Folded Flowers workshop on the afternoon of the 25th June.  Several different techniques will be taught and it is a relaxed course – all hand sewing.  Some people tried out one of the designs at our birthday party – if you want to learn how to do more book a place.
Happy Sewing
